Before you begin

Use Android 11 or newer for setup without a computer.
Keep your phone connected to Wi-Fi during setup.
Sign in to an active Smarter account.
Complete setup while parked, never while driving.

Important

Android requires Shizuku to be started again after every device restart. Pairing normally only needs to be completed once. Menu names can vary slightly by phone manufacturer.

Setup instructions

Complete these steps in order on your Android device.

Install Shizuku

Install Shizuku from Google Play, then open it once so its setup options are ready.

Enable developer options

  1. Open Settings → About phone.
  2. Tap Build number seven times and confirm your screen lock if asked.
  3. Open Developer options.
  4. Turn on USB debugging, then open and enable Wireless debugging.

Pair Shizuku

  1. Return to Shizuku and choose Pairing.
  2. In Wireless debugging, tap Pair device with pairing code.
  3. Enter the six-digit code through the Shizuku pairing notification.
  4. Wait for Shizuku to confirm that pairing succeeded.

Start Shizuku

Return to Shizuku and tap Start. Continue when the status shows that Shizuku is running. If startup fails, turn Wireless debugging off and on, then try again.

Connect Smarter

  1. Open Smarter → Uber settings → Advanced Automation.
  2. Under Command method, choose Shizuku.
  3. Approve Smarter when Shizuku asks for permission.
  4. Return to Smarter and confirm that Shizuku remains selected.

Troubleshooting

  • Allow Shizuku to run in the background if pairing keeps searching.
  • Keep Developer options and USB debugging enabled while using Shizuku.
  • After restarting your phone, open Shizuku and start it again.
